phase '0'

Downtown (Olympic) Streetcar: Test Runs Begin

It's been some time since I've been able to post.. work and side projects are taking up all my time.

I was riding through SE False Creek and checking the progress of the streetcar, when I noticed it was running - the two trains were running end-to-end.

It was great to see them actually running down the track and stopping at the stations. The track is a single track, with passing sections at the stations. It's unfortunate, but I verified my earlier discovery: that the track only reaches the "Olympic Village" Canada Line station at Cambie - and doesn't run through the Village itself.

Proposed Route of the Downtown Streetcar

This is nothing new, but I thought I'd post the map of the whole downtown streetcar route, even though only phase '0' will definitely be built. It would be amazing to see the whole thing built, as the starting point to a GVRD-wide streetcar and light rail network.

I'll be posting more information as I read through some of the city reports!

Vision Vancouver: Geoff Meggs digs streetcars

While looking up info on all the Vision candidates, one item sold me on the idea of choosing Geoff Meggs: he'd like to see the downtown Vancouver streetcar system built by the city.

Not just "phase zero" as has already been budgeted for (the current council gave the go-ahead for a 'demonstration' stretch to be built from Granville Island to Science World), but the whole project.
